why isnt my AP1 Ti shift knob burning?
I took the ap1 shift knob off my car to burn it so it turned rainbow colored. First I tried MAP gas and nothing happened after a couple minutes. So next i tried oxy/acetelyn torches. After a couple minutes it actually started melting the shift knob, but still zero color! What gives? I thought all the early AP1 shift knobs were titanium? This is the non-leather wrapped knob from a MY00 car.

I think some are but some are aluminum? No idea how to tell the difference exect I would expect the TI to be heavier. Safe to say you don;t have the TI one since it is melting though.

It is aluminum not titanium. Most are aluminum. The Titanium is an added cost shift knob you can buy from Honda. The oem titanium knob is very easy to burn. I have done a few of them.
The aluminum knob is also coated so that's probably what is melting off. The titanium is not coated and is heavier and has a different look and feel to the metal.

if in fact you have a titanium one there is a very small temperature area where it will start to change.
you dont just apply torch and wait till its red hot, by then its too late and you must polish and redo until you get it. you have to watch very closely
