Slickdeals has a Craftsman set of around $50. Still plenty of things to add to it as you need them, but a good start for the $$.

Any recommendations on an affordable low profile jack?

I'm pretty sure this is the one I recently purchased. Heavy as hell. I can get it under my car, including the central jack points (my car is stock height). I had to get it because my old floor jack wouldn't go high enough to get jack stands under the car. I also wanted to make sure I had something strong enough to lift my classic pickup.

The Craftsman low profile jack doesn't fit under the front jacking points and I'm not that low. I have to ether use the sizer jack or drive up on some boards. Not that I do that often though. My friends dad has a garage with a pit

Also I took back my Craftsman 1/2" drive ratchet yesterday because it wouldn't hold onto sockets anymore. The gave me a refurbished one, but it's working fine so far.

That looks pretty good for the price. Am I correct in thinking min saddle height is the lowest point the jack will fit under? In other words your car must have 2 and 3/4 inch clearance for the jack to fit under. If so, that's plenty as I'm not that low.

Yep, you have that right.

It also easily reaches lengthwise far enough under the car to reach the jack points. That was an issue with my old jack.

In addition to sockets and various extensions, you will want box end wrenches from 8mm to 19mm. Impact screwdriver if you still have assembly screws in the brake rotors. 22mm box end (I fink) for O2 sensors. Small and large torque wrench. A 10mm valve adjustment tool and set of feeler gauges are a good investment. Hand pump for changing trans and diff fluids. A 1/2 inch breaker bar is an absolute must. Anything else would be one time use, or something I can't remember.

Yup that's pretty much what I have. Only thing I would add is 23mm or 24mm socket for diff bolts and a set of ratchet wrenches, or at least sizes 8mm and 10mm, I've had to use them a lot lately, a (durable) set metric hexes and 1/2" to 3/4" adapter that I've needed to use a lot for some reason. Ratchet wrenches are awesome, I found a set of tiltable gearwrench at NAPA for $65. Not sure if good deal but whatever.

If you're a costco member I would recommend the Arcan XL35r jack. Heavy duty jack, low profile- not real portable but real stable. My 03's not lowered/no front lip, I can slide the jack to the center front jack point without 2x4's or anything under the tires. Has a nice bumper guard on the handle. Costco has it for about $100

10mm socket. That is all.
