Default Stock muffler modification

I have decided that I want a bit more sound from my S without replacing the exhaust. I will NOT be removing the cat, resonator, etc. I have the tools and the know how to perform this work at home, so it will not cost anything aside from the muffler packing. I will be removing most of the inner structure and pipes from the muffers. The holes left from the "twin loop" and stock pipe placement will be capped off and welded. I would like to hear from some of you guys and your opinions on this project. I searched the forums and the only thing similar was a pair of CR mufflers which were gutted, had no inner pipe and no packing. Here is a diagram of what Id like to do. Excuse my mad "paint" skills!

too much work, just get another muffler can and weld it on, your oem is almost 6 years old, i don't even know you could modify it without making it sounds worst.

Thanks, but that defeats the purpose of what I am trying to do. I do not want any type of aftermarket mufflers on my car as of yet. I really like the look of the oem system. I just want some tone to its voice, not so much volume. The stock system being 6yrs old has no influence on the outcome of sound it would produce. There is nothing to go bad within the stock mufflers, unless there was corrosion. But, from my understanding most of the materials used in our stock system is stainless. I will be adding sound absorbing material, so in that case it will all be new inside, except the center pipe.

sounds like you already made up your mind, don't kid yourself with the age thing, nothing last forever.
