Soft Top tear prevention

Inside the car, stick some layers of gorilla tape where the bars rub on the top. I also would always "help" the top go down by pushing back on the bar right above your head. The bar that bar has the elastic straps hooked to it.
Usually the elastic takes a set and then it won't pull that bar back far enough and the top will get gouged out every time you roll it down.
Or...fix the elastic straps.
I am no longer a soft top owner, but:
I bought a MY00 in 06. Original top. Sold the top in mint shape when I got a glass window conversion.
I had the glass window conversion top for 7 or 8 years before also selling it in totally mint condition with no sign of tears.
Granted...my S2000 isn't my DD, its always garage kept, and never saw winter. But still.

You can also use top conditioner....although I never did.
