Default Shift spring upgrade review

Installed these:

hybrid racing shift springs

Bottom line, they're fantastic!

I'd read some thought they might be too stiff. I don't find that at all. Its really made shifter feel...accurate. Deliberate.

More like, maybe like a gated shifter. Like it guides you to where it needs to go with precision.

Previously, I'd occasionally find myself trying to grab the next gear, but stuck in neutral and jammed into the 'hump' between gears. Like trying to go up into 3rd, but stuck between 3rd and 5th.

But that doesn't happen anymore. Shifts are crisp purposeful.

I installed them while I was doing trans and diff fluid change. I was able to get to all the springs without removing anything else. But it wasn't easy.

You'll need Hondabond or some grey permatex.

You can see and get your hands on each bolt, and I don't have small hands or arms. But just barely and it requires some dexterity.

I bought this tool from HF, and it made all the difference:

Nice install guide here >
Also you have an option of using less springs, and found them in UK

Each spring will affect the force in it's own way. You are able to mix and match these to fine tune the shifter movement to your likely. For example, you can install the F/R & L&R springs to give every movement a slight increase in force. Doing this and leaving all other springs stock is a great option

A printed version of those instructions came with the kit. There is also a youtube.

All the replacement springs are the same, except one, which controls centering in neutral. Easy to figure out since at tippy top.

Oddly, the original springs are all different lengths and different rates. Yet all (but one) replaced by the same new spring. Some of the original springs are muuuch shorter than the new ones. To the point you're thinking this can't be right.

But once installed, magic!

I love the shifter feel on my car as well.

Pretty easy doing it the second time on my friends car, took about 20 mins with the right tools and a lift.

Has anyone taken a look at the detent balls and the shafts after doing the springs after a period of time?

A friend who works on gearboxes noticed on his dseries civic race car that the shafts/balls were worn heavily using detent springs.
