The seats are designed by a company called TS Tech http://www.tstech.se/carseats.htm
They design and manufacture car seats for many OEMs. From what I've been told, these were designed by TS Tech USA (Reynoldsburg, OH) and manufactured by TS Tech Japan (Gyoda). The source is a colleague of mine, and used to work for TS Tech. He also told me that everyone thinks Recaro designed the seats...I suppose that's a good thing.

Also - TS Tech has a technical center in Tochigi, Japan. (Location of Honda R&D center where NSX and S2000 were originally built.)
And finally - a Google translation of TS Tech's 2008 annual report (http://www.tstech.co.jp/ir/uploads/irs20080520.pdf ) lists the 2008 S2000 seats as one of their products (implies previous model years too, since it was flagged as one of the models undergoing a minor change).
I think this mystery is solved.

I can't speak for the AP1 but man I love the seats in my AP2. They get as many complements as anything else on the car. I'm a little bigger guy and they fit very nicely. They're almost as nice as the leather seats in my 300zx Twin Turbo. Almost.
