I like the practicality of the softtop, but the protection of the hardtop..

plus I don't think a retractable hardtop would look good.

we can't have our cake and eat it

What do you like about the S over a mercedes? the engine? the body style?

I'm betting its easier to make a benz look like the S with a retractable hardtop than it is to make the S have a retractable hardtop.

I have always thought on this idea when I saw the s2000 for the first time as a Covertible Retractable Hardtop. Like allot of sports cars now in days they do have one like the BMW Z4... looks AMAZING!!!

I bet Honda Company didn't thought about this dream!!! lol...

The OEM hard top is not heavy at all, they could-of done it with no problem, now every 3-4 years (does who don't have a garage) need to replace the soft top.

I was also intrigued by this idea while looking a while ago, I figured you could reverse hinge the trunk, weld up the space between the trunk and the rear sill. Not too bad of a solution to get it to open and close. Thats about it though, there is not enough depth in the trunk to hold the entire hardtop, you may be able to come up with an elaborate system but bottom line is it needs to fold in, and its really not possible. The OEM is a good option because of its size, but it wont work because of the curvature of the glass, if any were possible I would say a mugen would be most likely to fit, but you have to worry about the side panels, and how that changes the way it lays in the rear section.

And honestly that ignores most of the pressing issues, such as the fuel filler neck and vents, rear brace, and general structure of the car.

I would love to see it done, if you have the cash go for it, unfortunatly I just don't think its possible.

I think is possible to make a targa top for the s2k, and practice on a cheap carbon fiber HT.

My OEM hardtop is retractable, but only when I have someone around to help me lift it, lol.
