Default painting rims, need advice

im going to paint my silver rpf1's black with the duplicolor wheel specific paint. i was wondering if i use a good adhesive promoter, i could get away without having the wheels sandblasted? would some decent sanding work, just the adhesive promoter, or both? or would i really need to have them blasted to have a superb finish? thanks for any advice

You would want to wet sand the wheels to get as much of the silver paint off as possible so the paint sticks. I used a 400 and 600 grit wet sand before I painted my wheels. Take your time and do it right.

A blasting isn't necessary. Use a mild grit sand paper to rough up the finish and spray 3 or 4 coats of paint with 2-3 coats of clear and you'll be fine.

I used that aircraft paint remover on one and that was the worst idea ever. Had more work with that rim then the other ones. I just used 800 wet sand the other rims and primed(2-3) (sand for bad spots) , paint (3 coats) clear (3 coats) lets it dry for 2-3 days, and looks great. Did mine gunmetal..
