Default OEM rear spoiler for AP2...

I'm going to throw the OEM rear spoiler onto my AP2 and had a quick question on installation. After reading through the installation instructions, it appears you need to use a special $20 tool made by Honda to mount and unmount the heavy duty springs that replace the smaller springs on the trunk. For the people who did this installation, did you need the specialized tool or were you able to pull it off with a little bit of muscle?

Also, I'm looking for the best price for the spoiler. Here's what I've found:

accessories-honda.com for $330
hardtopguy.com for $400
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com for $334.33
handa-accessories.com for $378

Was just going to buy from Handa Accessories because they're local and ships fast. Anyone have another place I should look?

Thanks.

most people don't bother changing the springs. install the spoiler and decide for yourself.

if you decide you want to do the springs, i highly suggest you use the OEM tool, it makes it simple. still requires muscle but makes it easier and less dangerous. there is a lot of tension on the springs, i wouldn't attempt it with a big screwdriver because if you slip, it could hurt.... lol.

The OEM front lip that I installed weight practically nothing, so I'm guessing the OEM spoiler will be even less. I guess I can see a lot of people not even caring to change out the springs. Do you really notice that much of a difference in tension if you leave the standard springs on there?

I just bought a new one (NFR) from the Marketplace forum. I talked to the seller on the phone, who was very helpful by the way, told me that the tool was not required as long as you have enough tools laying around I'm sure you can come up with something creative. I'm gonna gauge it as well this weekend after the spoiler goes on, I'll let you know OP and I'll take some pics if I decide to swap springs so it'll help you decide since I don't have the tool.

OP, I did not install the Upgraded springs b/c the spoiler weighs less than 3lbs and the trunk opens just fine. Here are some pics of the install:
