So i want to make a custom 70mm single with an oval/oem type muffler instead of the canister type since i think it'll be a little quieter and not stand out so much. The only problem is that it's super hard to find a 2.75" aka 70mm muffler. My friend told me to just get a 3 inch muffler and they can make the 70mm piping fit to it, but for some reason in my head i feel like the smaller pipe blowing into the bigger muffler size might make it farty.

anyone have any advice? should i keep looking for a 70mm/2.75" muffler or just go with the 3 inch?

also anyone know a ballpark range of what making the exhaust with stainless steel piping would cost? never done this before. Thanks!!

depending on what ur setup is 3" will probably net you less power. Unless your running forced induction. If you are N/A 2.5 - 2.75 is your best bet.

here is a link you can check out. I know it's 3 inch tube but what you gotta know is tube is measured by the outside diameter and pipe is measured off the inside. so a 3" tube is gonna be less than 3" on the inside depending on the wall thickness.

oh.. i meant i want to do 70mm 2.75" piping, but since i can only find 3 inch mufflers, i want to do a 2.75" pipe and have them expand it to 3 inch before they weld it on.

Going from a smaller to larger pipe will not make the car sound "farty". Neither will a different shaped muffler, alone. The reason Civics and now S2000s (thank to the popular resonatorectomy) sound farty, is idiots like to take the resonator out of the exhaust. You do not want to run a naturally aspirated inline 4 without a resonator (or 2) in place.

Just go with the 2.75" piping, weld in a resonator, and use a well-packed muffler.

 

by resonator you mean the extra muffler looking thing or the whale penis? i was planning to get the muffler shop to put in a whale penis aka hemholtz (spelling?) resonator but leave out the muffler resonator for now.

i was thinking i could add the muffler one later if it was too loud for me, but from what i think you're saying it will be farty if i do leave it out?

I have a 2.5 inch exhaust pipe, leading to a single Magnaflow canister which happends to be 3inch, I love it such a deep and clean sound. I raced against my friends stock Ap1 today, and I beat him . So I would say go for it.

 

What type of magnaflow canister do you have?..Do you have a resonator?..Also are you running a testpipe?...Hows the drone?..Sorry for all the questions...

 

Not a problem, I like the "downlow" look it has . I live in CA, and cops here pull you over for everything; moreover I didn't want to drive a Honda with an overly visible obviously modified exhaust. Oopps sorry caught myself rambeling, I am using a Magnaflow resonator, although it sounds a whole lot deeper without a resonator unlike the stock exhaust which sounds way raspy without one. But I recommend a resonator for daily driving because in the low gears you cannot hear shizzz inside since the exhaust so so deep, you'll set off alarms as you drive. The drone isn't to bad with the magnaflow canister, if one looks at that exhaust made by T1R which is suppose to have "no drone" they are essentially using a canister as well. If one looks at closely at the magnaflow canister they have a built in resonator .Oh and I am not running a test pipe I live in so-cal 10k ticket for running a test pipe
