My S cruises at 3krpm
Ok so I bought this car from a private party and everything is fine but it cruises at 3k rpm on 6th gear doing 65mph. The only thing the previous owner said he did to the car was a act lightweight flywheel. It revs fast but I spoke with someone else about this and he mentioned the light weight flywheel should not increase cruising rpm. That the gears were probably upgraded as well. What do you guys think? If it's the final drive will I have to put it back to stock before going Turbo?

Here is a graph I found showing gearing with rpm in relation to speed.
This engine was designed to run at very high RPM and it is normal for you to drive the car from 3-5k in normal everyday driving. 3-4k is normal for highway cruising so nothing to worry about.

3K RPM at around 60 or 65mph on the speedometer is the normal crusing speed. That should answer OP's question. OP can use a GPS speedometer to make sure his speedo is reading correctly. THAT would tell him if he had aftermarket gears or not. For example...if his in-dash speedo said 65, but his GPS speedo said 50, that would mean he has some sort of gear reduction.
But as far as 65mph as it relates to ~3K RPM; that's normal. 65 should actually be closer to 3300 RPM in an AP1 and 3200 in an AP2. Something like that, off the top of my head.

Yeah, its weird at first. Feels like you're in 4th, not 6th. Like there ought to be 2 more gears to go yet. But you get used to it.
It helps if you've ridden sportbikes, with their high redlines and high cruising rpms. This car has sportbike DNA.

Most cars dont really like to be operated under 2k rpms, but a lot of people lug their cars around with no regard. I dont find the S to rev particular high unless im cruising on i-5 for long distance at 80mph+. In fact this engine has got one of the broadest operating ranges in an engine I have ever known, to be able to be able to effectively work from 2500- to 8-9k rpms. Thats a hell of a swath. And if your used to having a tuned S2k with the 3500-4k rpm lowered vtec and maybe even a larger TB, its absolutely a wonderful powerband with great response off idle.
