J's Differential Distance Collar?
#3
Shock has one, I helped him via PM and phone calls with the install.
It does help to keep the preload and pinion in place but, a DIY install is not that easy, the collar requires a shim, the shim cost extra. Knowing what shim to buy is the real trick, this is where Shock got into trouble. It took about a month to get it right as I remember also, it took the aid of a local (to him) machine shop to grind the last shim he orderd for a better fit
I use a solid steel sleeve in my builds that is made of 10/20 mandrel (seamless) steel. We custom fit the sleeve (no shim) to the differential.

I think AJ Racing sells the J's with the shims included. what's the process of installing it?
To install it you must take apart the differential and remove the pinion. You will also want to replace the seals and pinion nut at the same time. The rear will have to be cleaned and recalibrated when reassembled. To do this you will need some specialty tools such as, an indicator, (2) torque wrench, plus a few others to make thing a little easier.
