Default Injen CAI location trouble.

I recently bought my 05 with pre installed cold air. The location seems to be strange to me due to no actual air moving to it. Has anyone ran this before? I've thought about cutting the false air duct to make it functional with this set up.

This is how most CAI have been setup since they were created. You are correct, there is no "Ram Air" effect since it's not right behind some kind of vent or bumper opening, but it still gets plenty of air. The idea behind it though, is that the air is cooler the further away it is from the engine--so it is plenty functional, but sure, you could make it more functional if you wanted to cut up your bumper. Your car, your call.

Do a before and after dyno, I highly doubt it'll make a noticeable difference, but you will be exposing your filter to more elements.

Yeah it just seems like water from wet tires is going to shoot straight in that opening. Good to know! Thanks!

^ This. It's how my Fujita is set up. There's air getting to it since the fender and liner aren't airtight.

water is fine, it just can't be submerged. If you are in an area where it rains a lot, a CAI probably isn't worth it. AEM also makes an air bypass valve for CAI's do avoid hydrolock if the filter is fully submerged. http://www.aemintakes.com/air_bypass_valve.htm
