Default Hate the drone...with HKS

I've had the HKS Hi-Power since summer, and above 4-5k RPM it sounds great.

But I drive on mostly back roads with traffic, so I'm usually below 4k. And because I dont like watching my fuel gauge go down weekly.

The drone though....its starting to get to be too much. I dont want to go back to stock...but the constant droning is getting on my nerves. Passengers dont mind...girlfriend doesnt care...but I have to drive it every day, and honestly, with the top up I cant hear the great sound of the HKS anyway...just the drone.

I've been reading about the Mugen and T1R 70R-EM, and they do look appealing to me. If there are any other options with no drone I'm interested.

Has anyone gone from HKS to a different exhaust, and what was the drone difference? I will NOT buy a test pipe, and the Berk HFC made no difference.

Thanks for any help.

I tried the HKS but went back to my Toda because the drone in the HKS was just under 4K RPM, which is where I happen to drive a lot at (Toda drones too but at 3K). One option for you may be to replace the HKS mid pipe with a section from the OEM exhaust. I picked up a free OEM system, had a shop cut and add a flange before the split to make it match up to the Toda. It still drones at 3K but the volume is much lower and the car feels the same as when I ran the Toda mid pipe.

Has anyone used the T1r and the HKS?

Also, thanks for the link Brian, I wouldn't have read that post otherwise.

I'm not sure on how much drone or how loud the HKS is (never rode in one), but the 70EM might not be what you're looking for. Maybe my definition of drone is off or that I'm wayy too picky, but I bought the 70EM thinking it would have less drone than my 70R Sparrow V3. The EM still had a very loud/deep sound below 4k; my gf hated it and I hated it because i preferred the Sparrow.

I have the HKS, wasnt happy with the drone, stuck on a J's exhaust manifold and it completely eliminated any drone, perfect to drive in any conditions now.
