Default Hardtop latches and strikers / catchers? Are they the same for SOFT and HARD tops?

Have a little bit of rattling on the hardtop from time to time, just wanted to know if the latches / strikers are the same for the SOFT TOP AND HARDTOP? or are there different ones.

I recalled the latches were different, but cannot find any info on that anymore.

I have read the threads on the diy fixes on the mild rattling for the latches, but that doesn't seem to be a long-term solution, just a short term fix.

Any feedback is appreciated.

The strikers are different. Hardtop versions are a little thicker. I've had them installed in mine but it hasn't eliminated the rattling. Guess I just need to adjust my hardtop more.

Mine doesnt really rattle as much as it squeaks when going over uneven pavement. I have OEM Hard Top with OEM Hardtop strikers and all OEM mounting equipment. I haven't really bothered to fix the issue, but its on my "to do" list.

Hardtopguy sells updated strikers. Does anyone know how they differ from some non-updated version?

I think they are just thicker (if you're asking the difference between soft top vs. hard top strikers)

The squeaking can be eliminated by putting enough Shin-Etsu grease on the rubber seals. The car frame flexes on uneven pavement causing the seals to rub.

There are hardtop latches and hardtop strikers, as well as, softtop latches and softtop strikers. And as mentioned above an good adjustment and shin-etsu grease lessen the noises of the hardtop. Good luck.

I was refering to the updated hardtop strikers versus, i presume, standard/old hardtop strikers.

1. Can you use what is on your AP2 if you go to pick up a hardtop to set it on and latch it down to get it home, and then worry about getting "updated" or thicker ones later?
