Hard Top
Hi guys im new here. looking at getting a s2k (around the 1999-2003 mark) in the next couple of months, was wondering if the car doesnt come with a hard top, how much is it to buy and install as the local dealer has advised 5k?!?!?!?!?! if not how would you recommend getting it done? professionally, independantly or just DIY (im not the least bit mechanically minded)

Installing the hard top is insanely easy. I wouldn't imagine paying someone to do it. Just focus on finding a hard top. If you want OEM, then you're going to be pretty much limited to used stuff. There's a few companies that make non OEM versions. Prices go from about $900 to $5000.

if you have a mugen or mugen style hardtop without oem hardware, takes a little longer because you have to take off some paneling to take the brackets off, you can always upgrade to oem hardware. need 2 people to take off hardtop also, usually lighter than oem (20-30lbs)
and don't pay for installation, it's incredibly easy to install
EDIT: i'm the same as you, in regards to having the hardtop on for winter and off during summer

what about in regards to taking it off again, because essentially i want the hard top for the winter then to be able to take it off for the summer?

this is going to sound really stupid but is the OEM the one that comes standard?

Save yourself this thread and try to purchase one with a hardtop.
option 1: go easy and get a S and try really hard to get a hardtop.
option 2: try really hard to find a S w/ a hardtop and continue living an easy life.
