Hey,

I first started off wanting some better midrange after getting the full bolt-on mods. I got the hondata toad reflash. Which lowered the vtec to 4200 and up the redline to 8500. Then, I still wasn't satisfied. I had a small conversation with some people about my mods and wanting more. Someone suggested getting gears. I sonn looked into it and then talked to puddy. Great guy by the way!! He hooked me up with a 1.5+ polished cryo 4.44 diff. Man it is perfect!! Gas milage is the same!!! It is perfect around town. And on the free way 75 mph is about 4300 ish. Nothing drastic. Around town. It gives that low end grunt and if I want more, I just say in gear a little bit longer and vtec is at 4200. One thing I didn't want to sacrifice was speed per gear. I didn't mind going faster in a certain gear but I hate to lose speed in the same gear as stock. With the 4.44 and a 8500 redline the gearing speed is pretty much the same plus or minus 1.

If you took 2 identical cars, and increased the torque on one of them by 5%, and lowered gearing on the other by 5%, they would both provide the same "seat of the pants" feeling in 1st gear. However, the one with the 5% increase in torque would DOMINATE in actual performance.

When I said that a good tune and TP would make it feel like a V6, I wasn't trying to say it would feel like a BMW 335i. It's absolutely incorrect to say that "most V6's put out 300 hp / 300 ft-lbs". My last 3 cars were 1) '02 Honda S2000, 2) '06 Lexus IS350, and 3) '08 Honda S2000. My Lexus did a 13.09 in the quarter mile. I know that neither of my S2000's feel NOTHING like my Lexus. However, I wouldn't consider that motor to be "typical" of a V6.

When I drive my current S2000, it doesn't feel like a VTEC engine at all. It feels like a single cam "regular" V6, with a broad torque curve instead of an eco-banger.

BTW, increasing the rev limit to 8500 from 8200 is only enough to compensate for a 4.20 final drive.

is it??? really!? if my memory serves me right my first gear stock topped out at 37 and then after the reflash its was 41 and then the gears came out to 37. all this was measured on 255/40/17. but i could be wrong.

Thanks all for info!

After looking at that dyno I might have to add a test pipe
and tune to go with the gear reduction.

ans2k is running the ultimate setup just this side of FI....
of course I don't need that much!

still unsure...4.3 or 4.44

F22 rev limit is 8200 RPMs. If you increase the rev limit to 8500, that's a 3.66% increase. If you go from stock gearing (4.10) to 4.44's that's an 8.3% decrease.

Damn, you won't even notice a difference with 4.3's. It's such a small friggin' change! I did a 4.77 swap in my '02, which is a 16% difference, and I was disappointed at how insignificant the change was. If you go with 4.3's, that's less than 1/3 the change that 4.77's would make,

Basically, you should pull your head out of the clouds (or ass), and think about the actual numbers here...

EDIT: To give you another example of the insignificance, do you really notice a difference in performance when you have a passenger in the car? The 4.3 gears would make less of a difference than a passenger.

humm ok man. i'll take it.

yeah 4.3 is pretty small! 4.44 was a small change but it was enough. i can only how much i wouldn't feel it.

im just saying but if u go with 4.44 there are oem gear so there is no whine. and if you are going to buy gears, why not go for it? i know 4.77 would be way too much for ap2 imho. just my 2 cents.

Wow....thanks for the kind words germby....it must
be tough going through life at 4'11"

I was basing my decision(or non)between 4.3 or 4.44 on the
fact that someone who knows way more about gears/diffs then
me and and who has driven every combination possible...e.g.
AP1/AP2 with 4.3 4.44 4.56 4.57 4.77...happens to choose
and run 4.3 with AP2 on his S!

He seems to feel that this is how Honda should hve specd the S...

now make yourself usefull and tell us all about the test pipe/tune you
had done to acheive stock max torque at like 3500 rpms.

It doesnt appear that your VTEC kicked in any sooner than stock..
that's a great tune for sure!
