How durable is a cloth top compared to the OEM top in terms of wearing out in the normal spots?

Cloth is generally more durable but if you have burrs in the usual wear spots then even cloth can wear out in those spots.

Thumbs up

Hello guys!

I bring this post up because I need change the TOP Soon.
My S2K is a MY00.
Actually I'm interested in the Robbins Premium (Top With Tinted (Non Heated) Glass Window Options).
Does someone have some pictures of a Robbins Top for a S2K (99-01)?
Especially the glass window.

Many thanks!

Simon

My installer recommended EZ-on over Robbins. He did say they materials are identical, but said he likes the plastic pieces on the EZ-on vs Robbins. He says it's easier to install and they come out great. My installation is early August, and I'm anxious to see how it comes out.

I've had an EZ-on top for about 4 years now, and it looks great. The OEM top wore out in the usual spots after about 2 years. This top isn't showing any signs of wear yet.

Ok guys, these patches that kinda help with the known wear points are a big selling point for me. I'm not doing OEM but I AM between robbins and ezon right now and so far I'm having trouble justifying the added cost of the robbins since they will both use the exact same cloth and have the exact same warranty.

Those of you with the EZ-on - does it have these extra 'wear' patches found on the robbins? If not, so far, its the only clear advantage I've read for Robbins over EZ-on.

I've ended choosing for my MY00 the Robbins Top purchased on topsonline.com (Burgundy Haartz Stayfast Cloth - glass rear window not heated). The result is really really great. A year ago I've changed the interiors and the colors are perfect. Well, the work wasn't easy at all, but fortunately I was helped by a friend of mine. Here some pics:

The only issue was it was a little short on closing the roof. Robbins/TopsOnline suggested us:

"The Top Material needs to be heated, by the Sun or a Heat Gun. The top is going to be tight the first time it is closed and may need two people to close and latch it. Please have him leave the top up for two weeks latched so that the material stretches out."

BTW It was too late. I've added some new little holes to gain less than 1cm in the middle and then allows me to close it.

Bye!

Excellent good to know.

Thanks!

As for adhesives to use during the process I was considering picking osme of this up: 3M 8090:

http://www.amazon.com/3M-Super-Trim-...Adhesive+08090

Anyone have any thoughts on this stuff or recommendation on others that will work well?
