Let's see...the car has been around for 10 years. Yes, people have made their own intakes.

well it seems like what your looking for is, sound, low costs, and not sacrifice power.

gut the air box, chop off the resonator, and seal the hole. check, check, check!

(and don't drive in the rain)
That's silly. I drove through torrential rain storms with my AEM CAI V1 for years.

best option is probaly to gut the stock airbox, and insulated it (which gernby has data on in the official intake thread),and try to find a used ebay snorkel or something.

i've been thinkin about ebay cai with the blox velocity/filter i think this would be a pretty good setup and relatively cheap.. only thing is im not sure of the piping is 3" or 2.75 and im really looking for 3" + this would most likely result in great results/sound..

It's ironic you say that, because I believe EMS costs around 1000 dollars? I think the OP's intention was to save money. lol.

And on that note, if he does get tuned, most of the power that would be found, would not be solely attributed to the intake.

to OP: You CAN make anything yourself. But don't forget about all the lines that need to be incorporated. Don't forget, when you pay for a 200 dollar intake, you're usually buying CARB legality too.
You can only go so cheap when you're trying to make power.
