i mean, its a curved pipe with a air filter on the end, i cant see myself paying $300 for an aem for only a few hp (im really just in it for the sound ) so has anyone made their own?

 

Coupled with an EMS, the gains will be MUCH more then 2hp lol

 

It's ironic you say that, because I believe EMS costs around 1000 dollars? I think the OP's intention was to save money. lol.

And on that note, if he does get tuned, most of the power that would be found, would not be solely attributed to the intake.

to OP: You CAN make anything yourself. But don't forget about all the lines that need to be incorporated. Don't forget, when you pay for a 200 dollar intake, you're usually buying CARB legality too.

 

this is true, but the cops over here in li aren't bad at all so im not worried, just wondering if there is anything fancy about a store bought intake or if it really is just a tube and a filter? btw i dont have a ems and wont have the cash for that anytime soon me being a broke 18 yr old haha its really just the fact that i have a hks single in the mail and would like the whole sound package

 

remove stock intake box cover if you want sound.

It's not just a curved pipe. It's a mandrel bent pipe. I can't think of a cheap way to build my own mandrel bent anything.

 

You could always just get an Ebay CAI, then stick a K&N or some better brand filter on it. Should look, sound, and perform as well as all the other same type of CAI's.

 

If you werent worried about carb legality, those ebay knockoffs work well. Just don't forget to buy a better filter cuz the ones they come with are worse than garbage.

The primary difference is that, brand name intakes take into account for different lines and sensors that need to be hooked up to the tube; which ebay ones provide.
