Diff is wasted
So my diff recently started whining, now I am looking for a replacement. My car is bone stock and I am happy with the performance, so i dont want lower gears. The OEM LSD works great for me so I dont need to change that either. My questions are: Who makes hardened gears? What should i do to reinforce the housing itself? What is a good shop to take it to in the Ventura/LA area? Thanks in advance.

Just because it's whining doesn't nessecarily mean it's bad. Diffs whine all the time.
Have you changed the fluid or anything lately?

I would start with a diff fluid change, the stock diff whines. How many miles on the car?
man i must have good luck. I'm sure I got mine coming to me but I've entered 3 drift events, do a lot of messing around, have dropped the clutch more times than I can remember and nothing so far. Last time I changed my diff fluid I didn't see any major signs like metal shavings.

The car is an '03 with 12,500 miles. I had all fluids changed two weeks prior to the whine. The dealership told me it was really loud and that its damaged. I know better than to listen to dealers, but it was such a clear changeover from quiet to loud whine that something must be damaged...
