one of the biggest concern about short shifter that rarely speaks of is the shifting quality.
with the oem shifter a up shift is just one motion, with SOME short shifter you need to bring it up right and up again for a up shift. it's extremely amazingly annoying and actually slow down the shift time.
not saying it's true for every short shifter but it does happens to some.

Corrected inaccurate info re: C's construction...see bold edit in third post.

^ Looks like a cross between stock and axial flow. I think the perfect combo is a C's with a countersunk knob. So smooth The shifting isn't clunky like it is with some other short throws, it's almost as smooth as an Rx8 and MUCH more precise.

I thought I would prefer the oem knob on the C's but had to try an aluminum voodoo just to be sure. Well, I'm now sold.
Sadly I was so anxious to get the C's installed I didn't take any pics. But I will get pics of it installed.

Update: I had a chance to shift an Axial Flow shifter at Dragonball Run this fall. The throws are about the same as the C's. The C's shift lever is the same length as stock; the Axial Flow is a bit shorter than stock.
The feel of the Axial Flow during gear engagement is more mechanical...not better or worse, just different. Some will prefer the more "connected" feel of the Axial Flow. Others will like the smoother feel of the C's...it feels more like an oem shifter as it is engaging. But both are more direct and require more effort than stock. Of course the OEM S2K shifter requires less effort than 90% of the other oem shifters on the market.
Neither shifter will fix the 1-2 grind that many S2000s exhibit during really fast shifts. But either one will allow a smooth 2-3 or 4-5 upshift in a single diagonal push of the lever.
For some reason the short shifter seems to make it easier to heel-and-toe but thats probably all in my head.

i love the feel of the AxialFlow and the superlight, superconductive Alex Ti countersunk knob. it's just that i can't handle all the vibration. it is a VERY loud and piercing sound. it's annoying and makes the car seem cheap and shoddy. i know it's a small quirk, but it bothers me A LOT.
i plan to switch to a different knob and i hope that that along with some teflon or MAYBE silicone will remedy the sound/vibration.
