Default Cusco cage and all the negative hype?

Curious, why all the hate on the cusco cages? seems to be alot of negative on it from what iv seen online. I know the bars are thinner then the hard dog, but is the cage really as bad and unsafe as the interweb hype? and why doesnt it work for SCCA?

^material choice, sacrificies in design to "bolt in", compromises in design to make it acceptable for daily use, not welded in.

It is better than nothing in a roll situation, but IMO it is more looks than safety.

pretty though

The SCCA rules are on line at their website. It's no secret what they are. You don't need to ask here. Just read the rules and compare what they say to the Cusco design.

Not meeting the SCCA rules does not necessarily mean a roll bar or cage is useless. It just means it doesn't meet the SCCA rules. As always, you muct do what seems right for your own situation.

I think the main reason they are not approved is the Cusco cage that contours around the the S2000 dash so you don't have to remove and drill holes it instead of using a straight bar that goes through the dash. This is a significantly weaker design.
The rear section contours around you factory roll hoops so you don't have to remove the oems is also made for ease of install but unecessary to run them both at the same time and adds weight.
I know a guy who have a custom Monkey Bars roll cage installed in his Civic who got in a rollover.
The bar gauge was even thicker then Cusco and it contoured around the dash. The bar folded at the curve and ended stabbing his passenger

Yes, the extra bends in the bars are the main reason they don't meet the SCCA standards. As you note, it significantly weakens the strength.

cool. well i did some searching and found this info

In Japan, the Cusco Safety 21 cage's meet FIA and many JAF regulations and are used in race events. Unfortunately these regulations are not worldwide.

We have sent Cusco the SCCA regulations for cages and they have said that due to the slightly different size requirements, sourcing the material for U.S. cages would be expensive and drive the cost of the cages up. Therefore, at this time there is no plan to produce a U.S. specific cage.
