Default Chase Race Hitch Ap1 vs Ap2 Fitment

I will be going down to one vehicle here soon because of a move to NYC and I am hoping to find a chase race hitch to give me a little more flexibility. I have found a couple of AP2 hitches that are available, but I have an AP1. Does anyone have any idea of the differences between the Ap1 model and the Ap2 model? Would the Ap2 work with an AP1 with some slight modifications?

The rear brackets that mount between the bumper beam and the body are different but, to the best of my knowledge, only in the hole count. The AP1 has a five (5) bolt configuration with three (3) on the left and two (2) on the right. The AP2 has a six (6) bolt configuration with three (3) on each side. Also to the best of my knowledge, the AP2 has all five (5) of the necessary bolt holes for the AP1 but the AP1 lacks the sixth hole which must be drilled to fully install all of the bumper beam bolts on an AP2. So, it's the AP1 that must be modified to mount to the AP2.

Figured I`d chip in my two cents here, for anybody reading in the future.
I have an AP2 and wanted to install a Chase Hitch. I couldn't find any specific information regarding the AP1 vs AP2 differences, so I bought the first that came along.
Turns out it was for an AP1 and so far, it's been a PITA.

1) My `04 had 5 bolts for the bumper, three on the left and two on the right - no problems there. Maybe this is more applicable for `06+.
2) I believe that the bottom bumper mounting tabs were dropped ~1" on the AP2. That means that one I adjusted the threaded heim joints to clear the rear bumper supports, they were barely threaded into the hitch assembly. No way I`d support any weight on them... I took some 3/16" scrap plate, welded it across the top of the chase plates, and drilled a new set of holes 1" higher. With this modification, I have good thread engagement and the hitch sits low enough to clear the bumper supports.
3) I remounted the rear bumper, and found that it blocks access to the two rear pins - ie, the heim joints can't get to the mounting points. I`m going to take a dremel to the rear bumper later tonight to make space. Hopefully that's the last issue, but I`ll post more if I hit more problems.

I installed a Curt AP1 hitch on my AP2. The thread is included in my signature. Unfortunateky its a bit old and most of the pictures are not on this site anymore. Nonetheless, if I was you, I d install a Curt hitch on my AP1. They are available..just Google hitches and serveral sites including Amazon will come up. Curt makes a great hitch.

Having seen your setup up close I would say that was pretty much perfect. I would definitely go that route if I needed a hitch.

Hope all is well with my Fontana hotel room mate ! - Joey
