The problem with doing that is pure white with no other pigments added actually looks duller than a white with a little blue or yellow added. The blue makes the paint look brighter. A straight white looks dull in comparison.

The gloss looks much better. Also, to achieve a matt finish you have to sacrifice surface condition. A matt paint job is going to permeate a lot more crap and look bad after a short while.
