Around town maybe. But I wouldn't. I made the mistake of running AX6's in front and stock in rear for a track day and by the forth 20min run I completely destroyed my rear rotors. The rear pads were completely gone. Not worth it in my opinion. Just buy a complete set.

^ well, new pads don't release gasses that need to escape. if the rotors are drilled/slotted AFTER the casting, this creates weak spots where they can crack with heat. it reduces surface area that the pad sweeps. it does not let any more heat out. it eats your pads faster.

i agree, slotted rotors look awesome. but on our cars with the pads we're using, centric blanks are as good and cheap as any. nicer looking than oem, too, no rust!
ss lines are also a joke. the technology in the rubber these days (or at least on the s2k) prevents any line warpage. ss helped back in the day. you will see NOTHING on the s2000 with SS lines.

really, let me repeat: fluid (brembo, motul, ate, valvoline, etc), good pads (different for every application, there will be a compromise between bite, rotor life, noise, dust, etc), and centric blanks. combine it with a gravity bleed and some good tires and you have yourself a car that will brake very well.

I wound up going with Hawk HP+ for both DD and around track use. Not the greatest pad on the track, but definitely an improvement over stock while maintaining streetability without having to put serious heat in them.

Stock rotors, Motul RBF-600.
