That's random, I got my Berk HFC tested a few days ago and it passed nox easily. I was having a Hydro Carbon problem and barely, just barely passed that.
I has numbers if anyone is interested.

A shop once told me to keep the catalyst in the HFC hot right before getting smogged and it will have a better chance of passing the sniffer. You'd do that by sitting there and keep the revs on. The tech would probably get inquisitive as to why you are revving the engine, though.

Six bolts including the secondary O2 sensor. But it's still really simple to switch out.

I've heard, but don't know if it's really true, that with the Berk 63 HFC, you can get the heat shield back on, which will cover it up so a tech may not notice it's not the OEM. Can anybody verify that?

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work, since it's the same size as OEM (actually probably thinner, due to a lack of a core). Of course you could fab up a heatshield for any size; or while I've never looked into it, I'm sure they sell larger heatshields somewhere on the interwebs. Of course, most techs won't ask you to remove the heatshield out of laziness. That being said, if you're ever sent to BAR they will remove it.
