Default Berk Extractor & Test Pipe Installed

Got mine some time back and just the right time to put it on and run some dyno. Already have Fujita CAI in and now is the time for extractor change.

Here's a pic of the original with the heat shield and cover removed.

See the gap of the original extractor to the RHD steering rod (you dun call it a shaft, do you. Oh this is VGS version). We will see how close it is for the Berk.

Here's a look of the under carriage from the front.

From the rear..

Cat converter removed.

Comparing it with Berk's Test Pipe. Ok.. you know what i have in mind?? hehehe

Extractor is now down. We can use back the heat shield if wanted. Just gotta cut and weld back the bolting points and cut the heat shield by half to avoid jamming the steering rod.

To put in the Berk, gotta lift the engine on the RHS a little. We tried the top down, bottom up.. but just couldn't do it without lifting. thanks to reading other post before hand to advise my mechanic. Remove the engine mount below and lift at the location shown.

After the extractor is securely tightened. This is how close it is to the engine mount. A view from the bottom.

A view from the top:

And here's the gap between the extractor and steering rod.

Zooming in. It's about 5 mm gap

Oh did we left out the test pipe? Ah ha, this is what I had in mind! A covert test pipe with original cat converter cover in place!

Job done..

But alas, just done driving home and some vibrating metal sound.. realise the shell spot welding wasn't strong enough to stop the bottom piece from hitting the test pipe. By 3rd day when I check, the spot weld has broken. Seems like gotta weld the whole upper piece.. haven't decided yet..

without a CEL fix it will, sooner or later(mech or electrical fix)

tell your welder to weld a bracket that attach to the side mount bolt, fusing thick metal to paper thin pressed steel is asking for trouble.

bump for dyno

ok noted.

As for CEL, I believe the fix is there already as we could tell the O2 bung was extended with some nice welding to the original which was shorter. Upon close examination, the basis of the original design is to locate the sensor head so close to the opening that it senses too rich a gas output that triggers CEL. The new fix rectify the prob by moving the sensor head away, higher, so that it read lesser.

I see the actual converter, the sensor head is actually exposed in the space in between the honey comb located in the front and rear section of the converter tube.

Having said that, I can smell my exhaust expunging rich gases! Haven't smell that since my old RX7 days..

Prefer the ride and kick of the stock and the suction sound from the fujita cai. This one, too smooth..

Ok haven't got the time to scan the dyno chart. Here's a replacement of the screen..

This was my last result with Fujita added.
