Its not that bad say if the mold is $100K. He could sell 25-30 tops at a reasonable price and he has already recouped the tooling cost. Some tooling companies will even front some of the money for tooling if you have orders or if the they agree to own the tool. They will keep the tool as an asset and charge part of the tooling back on a per part basis until the tool is paid for.

The tool itself could be an investment opportunity for a select few now since the factory has stopped making the tops.

10 people could invest $10k for the tool. If each sold 2-3 tops, they get their money back and profit after that.

Or, he could sell them for 2k, undercut the current market for the OEM HT, and only need to sell 50 of them. I guarantee he would sell 50 Aluminum hardtops if fitment were spot on.

Then again, we are only talking about the costs of the mold. Still missing the costs for materials, labor, shipping, painting (if possible)...

Yea, definitely a pipe dream at this point in time.

I wonder how much it costs to have a mold made in China?

Whoa whao!!! Out sourcing aren't we? He would probably have to sell 100 of them at 2k to probably be even. And not hating on the Chinese seeing I'm part Chinese but I can image how that might not work well over time with Fitment with the over use of the mold.

Since this attaches to the rear exhaust cap with screws, how well do you guys think this will work with the single exhaust cap?

i think it connects to the rear bumber itself and not to exhaust cap.
