"Air silencer" in S2ki?
I am sure some of you are familar with the long black plastic snorkle "air silencer" thing that was fitted to the 96-00 Civics. When removed, this would cause the car to sound better. Probably didn't help hp or anything but it did sound good better.
Does the S2ki have a similar device that can easily be removed to provide better sound during the VTEC change over? I haven'tr had time to order or install a K&N FIPK yet. It may be a while...

Dont take the lid off.. Especially if you live anywhere near the south. Even with it off in the cold it was said you would actually LOSE horsepower. Because the inlet on the front lets the air circulate before going into the intake. With it off there is no way really for cold air reach into the filter. I dont know how to properly explain this but just think about it..

The OEM air box uses a second chamber to quiet intake noise, when I blocked it off as a test I couldn't hear any difference. YMMV but I wouldn't bother. The large volume of the stock box also helps with throttle response. If you really want an aggressive intake sound go with a PRM, easy install and not too expensive. I also removed the hood pad to let more of that delicious growl through.

Lid hasn't been on my airbox since I bought the car, and I could care less about those couple HP I loose from heat soak, I get them back once its rolling over 5mph. Obviously I never win any drag races, but I get lots of compliments about my exhaust "modification" (I have no mods ;-) ). Plus it doesn't hurt the wife's ears like a real exhaust mod.
