he is in a 91 300z twin turbo. he has lots of engine stuff, and a few suspension work. also has bigger brakes and runs perelli tires. i have bfgoody g-force radials, exhaust, intake, and lots of suspension work. our lap times are almost identical, but he is just a hair faster. its the long straights where he stomps me. he just putpowers me(by over 200hp...) i want out of the turns faster and down the straights sooner. my lap times on daily radials were hardly off of a stock Z06 running slicks... i just need the power to outdo high HP cars, not the setup. my car is dialed handling wise...
you say 5-8 whp over stock... im not doubting this at all, but my question is, why does the HKS hurt power? the stock exhaust was dual. what makes a single 60mm better than a dual tip 60mm?

You want the straitest pathway with as little bends as possible and certainly no Y's like you get from a dual, which creates turbulence.
A consistent pipe diameter from the point in leaves the collector off of the header, to the tail pipe is best.
Also the glass pack canister type muffler such as the round ones you see on 95% of all after market S2000 cat backs reduce turbulence, allowing better smoother flow over the stock deflector style mufflers. This is where most of the gain comes from in after market duel, which in a good one can equate to 5whp typically. I don't know why it is said that the HKS loses power. I would be inclined to think that it would make a couple over stock, unless there is some sort of piping inconsistency somewhere creating more turbulance over stock, I have never looked at one up close so I could not say, but I would examine things real close wile your cutting it up and fix anything that stands out as going against any one of these princables I listed for you. Good luck.

well heres the thing i dont get... its almost straight back from the header to the Y. and then from the Y theres half a foot or maybe a foot to each tip... i understand that the Y might cause a tad drop in flow or something, but i dont think it would be substantial personally. i dont see how the invidia could make much more than 1 or 2 hp over the HKS... could just be me though...

the difference between that one(non-s2000 setup) and my dual really is the Y and the muffler is closer to the tips... and the pipe i believe is slightly straighter...

i run a honda wing actually. dont want a front splitter or lip. it would be my luck to rip the lip off anyways... car is lowered so everyday driving can be challenging at times. again i am not worried about setups... i am planning on putting slicks on it soon for racing. once these stock wheels and tires sell im going to get some slicks which will really help times, but i still want the power...

what about the exhaust though... all of the mthat ive found are 60mm pipes... what if i made a custom 65 or 70mm exhaust system? would that give even more power than the other aftermarket 60mm systems?
