i'm interested for whenever i'm back at home. right now my residence is in new york for college...but whenever i come back i'll attend any events going on.

I agree with turbo_power that most areas are covered by our two clubs. The possible "gap" is central NJ around Princeton, but those folks have the opportunity to join in events of both groups 
It probably makes sense to have localized meetings/ cruises/ whatever, but still under the umbrella of one of the existing clubs.
FWIW, I know there was a small movement about 6 months ago for southern VA (Richmond) to split off from NoVa (DC/Balto). After a thread or two, I think they decided to stick together as MidAtlantic. If you look at some of the smaller clubs on s2ki.com, you will see that some of them have problems: days by without posts, moderator moves and no one replaces them, etc. Just my .03...
