JDM STI Seat in S2K
#12
I have two pair of imported seats, they are vastly different than crappy USDM STI seats. I don't know why, its kinda sad.
Especially when I show at a Subie meet, where my S2K is the only car with supportive seats amongst all the stock STIs

Been beating on it for the last week. It is so amazing to be at half lock under peak lateral load, and be able to let go of the wheel with my right hand to grab the correct gear. And all without upsetting the balance of the car!
My how that GT-R shrinks into the distance behind me from one corner to the next! Really blows me away in the straights.
Skinny guys: you really don't know what the S2K handles like until you get appropriate seats for your body size. Its not your fault.

It has taken a while, but my habits of bracing myself are finally broken, I now completely trust my body weight to my seat. I think of this because last night I encountered a problem I feared I would hit.
Since I now sit back and twirl the wheel with my wrists, as fast as is needed both hands, any oversteer including drifting is now child's play to me at any whim. I powerslide so much its frankly ridiculous. Last night I broke my own rule for on street and went for a full drift (more than 60% weight transferred over the rear axle) to the point of possible spin. It was a completely deserted road, 4 lanes wide, my lane right in the middle. Sticking it in 2nd at 8k, I thought, whatever, there no risk of hitting anything. Well, she snapped sideways just as I planned, full lock, and the recovery snap to opposite oversteer I planned for too. All dealt with inside my lane, not touching a line. What I didn't expect was that I was so relaxed and trusting the seat, the violence of the rears grabbing literally threw me up out of the chair and I violently smashed into the door during this process. So I either need less grippy tires or a a 4 point harness
Regardless of if you think I'm an idiot or not, I'll repeat one statement that I'm adamant is very important to all S2000 owners: You simply do not fully understand or trust the handling traits of the S2000 unless you are firmly held in the seat properly. I believe very strongly this is a key factor in any negative feedback about the car. Getting a seat that fits your body type is extremely important.

I own an 05 sti, and the seats blow. The stock seats in any of my s2000's are waaaaaay better than jdm or usdm sti seats. Evo 8 seats are bar none much nicer, hence the reason a lot of sti guys swap to them.
But good job on making them fit and if you like them thats all that matters.
