i always found that reverse lights are not for you to see, but so that cars behind can tell that you're reversing. (thus the universal white-reverse-light)

never had the scenario where it was so dark that I couldnt see what's behind me. brake lights, which you'd 99% be pressing when reversing, gives plenty of light

Seems like a pretty big fire hazard. Not trying to hate, but this is a pretty bad idea

I agree. Cutting into factory wires and using it for higher output is not safe. Wires thickness or thinness in this case determines how much power it can handle and I don't think the reverse light wiring is thick enough to handle additional output. I think the proper way to do is hook up new thicker wires or get a fog light. Better be safe than sorry.

HID's run pretty cool compared to halogen bulbs, have you ever touched a tail light after them being on for a while?
They get hot, as for power drawings the size of the wire back there is about the same size as the wiring to headlights fyi.

HID capsules give off less radiant heat and run at a lower wattage than halogen bulbs, HOWEVER, they still burn very, very hot. Put your finger on an HID projector while it's running if you don't believe me.

http://www.jlclightings.com/default.asp where I got them. I'm not sure which one it is because I went to the store in person to get them. You could contact them and ask. Plug and play.

(don't click on the pics cause they are enormously huge)
