On german cars, the studs are part of the lug nut.
The stud screws in to the rotor holding on the wheel.

Sheesh when people stole my wheels at least they had the decency to put steelies on them. Yup, you heard that right, I had rims stolen from my eclipse and they actually put 4 steelies back on the car and lugs too!
