Here is 2 of my past dogs.I had to put the pitbull down because she had a serious tumor.And the Shih tzu got lost after someone left my gate open.

I've heard they are hypoallergenic too but they do shed just as any other dog, just short hairs.
As far as intelligence, yes, they're smart in a lot of aspects. Most score them as a "dumb" breed because those tests are based on their trainability which is hard w/ a Basenji because they are very headstrong. But, give them a problem that prevent them from getting something they want and they'll solve it or, scold them ina way they dont like and they will show their anger by doing something so blatantly wrong and bad that all you can do is laugh.
As far as barking, its not that they dont like to its that they're "vocal cords" are different than most dogs so barking doesnt happen. Instead they do what it called a yodel (look up basenjis on youtube ) And on top of that some of them just plain dont do anything. Our oldest, Kenji has only "barked" 2 or 3 times in his 6 years. Savanna on the other hand is more vocal, we never get full yodels from her but she sings when she yawns for attention etc.
They have to be my favorite breed that I've ever had. They're trying just like a 2 year old child but rewarding at the same time. I've never had dogs with more personality than they have.
