Our new '12 STi

Beautiful car! I parked next to the same exact car today, color and everything. I thought to myself for about 10 seconds "if I ever get rid of the s2k, this could possibly be my next purchase" but then reality kicked back in and I remembered I'll never sell the s2k, haha. However, you made the right decision with the family and all. Probably one of the best "family vehicles" out there. Enjoy

i believe the ringland failures were a problem with the 08 stis.

The current gen GR and the 07 GD are prone to ringland failures.
To the OP, great choice in getting the wagon over the sedan. I had the sedan and it was a boat!

It's the crappy stock tune from Subaru that causes engine problems. They issued an ECU reflash on the 08's but the new base map wasn't much of an improvement. Accessport and a stage 1 reflash or protune should be done right away on the GRs no matter what, even if you aren't looking to modify the car.
Fish, I would swap out the front and rear shifter bushings if you don't like the shifter feel. It's the best mod you can do for the money on any Subaru, trust me. And it only takes an hour or so to do both.
