GIMP is free. I use it at work when I need to touch up images for web apps.

Here is an HDR tutorial for GIMP I found after a very brief search http://www.instructables.com/id/HDR-...with-the-GIMP/

I would recommend photomatix for HDR processing. I don't remember how mcuh the standalone product costs (the photoshop plugin is only like $20 IIRC) but its definitely the way to go for HDR imaging.

I need to go get a few decent sequences of my S to HDR now. Its bone stock so it'll be boring though

I, too, use Photomatix, and my pics are taken with just a little $200 (at the time of purchase) Canon SD750, and I do manual bracketing. I think with a higher-end camera, a person could get much cleaner pictures, but I don't feel it's worth it to me.

Here are a few more shots of my car, my dad's car, and my house back home. These were some of my first HDR pictures, so some are a bit more "extreme".

i won't lie...some of the ugliest pics i've ever seen. there's a fine line between doing something that's 'hdr' and letting software make your picture look really pasty.

And I won't lie: I definitely won't claim to be a master of the technique. I just find it fun.

Now lets see some more pics!

and if you look up HDR and see how it works you will understand HDR is 5+- Pictures put together which makes the realistic look to them. and then you can make colors stand out how ever you want.
