What do you guys think about the Springfield XD .45?
Glock benefits:
-proven reliability track record (THE or among the very best)
-cheap and easily available parts (including mags)
-no external safety (perfectly safe with proper gun handling, and less to mess with in a SHTF situation)
-very easy to take down and maintain
-low bore axis (more controllable, less "flip" recoil)
-good trigger (for a defensive gun)
-short trigger reset
-ability to accept higher capacity mags from larger Glocks
For me, NO other handgun comes close to offering what Glock does.

Reason being - do a search for "HS2000". Before springfield put their name on the "XD", "XD's" as you know them, went for around $300. I might pay that...
Springfield makes great guns....however they did not design this gun. they do a GREAT job of marketing this gun, and giving you accessories (terrible holster/mag pouch) thinking you are getting a value, but IMO, I'd rather have a gun from a company whos R&D/engineering team is larger than its marketing team.
I just havent found a gun that suits me better, nor works better than a glock

Already a thread for this....
As soon as I get paid I am gonna go to my local gun store and shoot some of the used guns. I just wanted to ask about the XD because a friend of mine talks about it like it is the holy grail.

JDM_JOE:
As a 1st handgun I would suggest you get some sort of striker-fired 9mm. First, and foremost, the ammo is cheaper. I'm going to go out on a whim and assume that you're a novice shooter due to the fact that you're asking advice on what gun to buy for yourself. The only way to get better is to put more rounds down the pipe. .40cal is readily available but costs more and .45ACP is rarer than diamonds in some areas and again, more expensive. Though some would argue that "it's just a 9mm," a proper Mozambique will put anyone down. Secondly, with a striker-fired gun, all your practice goes towards a single trigger control as opposed to something like Sigs, CZs, FNP, or any other double/single action pistol.
I personally carry a S&W M&P because I hated the ergonomics of Glocks-- it's too squared and I'm more used to a 1911 grip angle as opposed to Glock's extreme grip angle. With that said, I can't rag on their reliability and accuracy.
Tad bit of a long-winded reply, but my advice is go handle and shoot a bunch of different stuff and get what you're most comfortable with.

I've done a couple defensive shooting courses with it so far and it feels great in that area as well. I can say that I'm not too fond of the accessories that come with it. They're both molded plastic, which is ok I guess. The holster I replaced ASAP. The mag "pouch" is passable for just fun at the range.
