I don't like the evo X at all...but for you guys cheering on the looks of the new STi...A rally-inspired car isn't supposed to be so closely aligned to a station wagon. Wagons are family cross-country tips (i.e. clark griswald national lampoons vacation), not rally bred monsters. Also, why in the hell would you want that ridiculous wing on the back slope? I know wings have their purpose, but that's just damn ugly and not as necess. for an awd car not meant for top speed.
A hatchback is generally going to offer a stiffer initial platform with (at worst) equal weight to a sedan while being easier to cage and stiffen. It's easier to tub (if needed) and allows more optimal locating of the fuel cell, battery, and other accessories that can be distributed for better weight, access, and maintenance.
Wings are generally functional at about 60-80 mph mph. Rally cars regularly hit that speed.

wings? I do think they're functional.
I think they did a pretty good job with the new STI.
Just because it's a rally bred doesn't mean it has to stay in a box form.

I don't believe that is true. Last rag I read said it was being offered with both manual and that fancy shmancy auto.
but i got my source from, Motortrend or Car & Driver...
it was a June issue i believe,
and the editor sounded pretty darn sure it wont be offered in a manual

I'm sorry, how many other rally cars are the box shape? 2, maybe 3? Why not a coupe? smaller, lighter, can make just as wide of a wheelbase.
**** the wagons, go birth some kids and throw them in the backseat of your sedans while I ride in my coupe that will be much lighter and handle better. Its people like you who have turned the market from true sports cars (i.e. mazda RX-7, Nissan 300zx TT, Toyota Supra, Toyota MR2 Turbo, Eclipse GSX/Talon TSi AWD) into big, heavy, less potential for power pigs that are now taking the shapes of shoe boxes. Good job, please keep ruining the industry.
