OEM KNOB *SHORT SHIFT*
I had a little extra time on my break from work today so I decided to customize my oem shift knob instead of paying a grip on an aftermarket short shifter. My knob was kinda scratched compliments of my dad's wedding ring so I decided to give it a little buff! I wrapped the leather part in masking tape and polished both metal ends with a brilo-pad. Then I re-polished it with a rotary buffer. The effect is chrome-like instead of polished aluminum...it looks like a mirror now. Then I fastened the knob to a drill press and bored it down 3/4" with a 7/16" drill bit. This left a little more than 1/4 of the thread inside the knob. After that I chopped off 3/4" of the shifter with a rotary grinder. Took about 20 mintutes to complete, and i am VERY PLEASED with the outcome!
Sorry about the blurry pics, i was in a hurry!
Let me know what you guys think!
Notice the reflectiveness
OOOOO SHINY!!
See how I countersunk the bore?

after reading this, i ran to my garage and tried it out...took me about 30 mins without a drill press and another 10 mins trying to get the numbers to line up...just wished i wouldve thought about this a while ago so i wouldnt have had to spend the money on the ricks knob...i love the feel of the oem know so much better
