Its not just because of price. The F20C and its tranny are designed for a front engine/ rear wheel drive configuration- note that the Atom is a mid-engine rear wheel drive car. A F20 would take some major work to fit in. On the other hand if you take a front wheel drive car, all you have to do is mount the engine the opposite way and volia! its now mid engine rear wheel drive. That's why this car has the K20 and why the Elise has the Celica GT-S engine.

Great explaination. In addition, just think about what direction the crankshaft is spinning in a K vs F series engines.
