All those cars are close enough stock to stock that it becomes a drivers race.

i agree with people saying that the M3 is faster. S2000 can not keep up in a straight line and people who say it can are smoking some good stuff.
My S2k had a hard time beating stage 1 modded WRX's and stock M3's can smoke those. Now a close race is the S2k vs. previos gen M3's. That is a close race. The newer M3 gives my NSX a run for its money.
S2k is a great great car but lets be realistic here.

It depends on the driver in most cases!
Given equal drivers, the m3 should be consistently a half second quicker than the s2k at the very least.
But when you have these impromptu street races with different drivers, you can easily make up that small time difference due to driver/shifting error, bad launch, etc.

What I think alot of us fail to realize is that the race shut down quite early. Seemed like 80-90mph. Of course you're not going to see a huge difference in speed if you race to a short speed like that. I bet the M3 would pull even more had you guys raced up to 120. E46 M3 vs. S2K isn't a very fair comparison.
E36 M3 vs. S2000 is a better match.
