Well that's pretty much the way it goes. People go out and buy the camera but forget about the accessories. Television cameras are mounted on some of the biggest stands I've seen. Freaking huge. You can get a tri-pod at Best Buy for $30 that's absoultely amazing. I have one. It's great. Turned my digital photography around. I can only imagine what it would do for motion.
And that Sticky Pod thing is stellar for shots from a car. http://www.stickypod.com/
The problem is, that there is no point of referance in these amature car videos. Something in the frame needs to not be moving. Either the car or the background. When it's all moving, the mind can't interperate it. Even when you are shooting at a car, the camera should move very little. Just let the car drive by, possibly panning the camera slowly with it, but that isn't even necessary.
