Default License Plate Number

What is the problem with pictures of your personal vehicle license plates without editing out the State and numbers? Locating your Stook for theft?

Are you asking why people don't want their license plate numbers plastered all over the internet? Well, it's been my experience that if someone wants something of yours bad enough, they're going to find a way to get it. Using a license plate number, information like name, address, etc. can be easily obtained. Not making your plate numbers available is just another step in preventing your car from being stolen.

Come on guys, these days if someone wants some information about you they can get it pretty easily over the internet. I don't see that it is any worse than driving around town with your licence plate uncovered.

I actually asked this before and appearantly in some states you can get someone's address in some states for simply knowing the plate numbers.

You can get most US residents' email, phone, and address, and even a map to their friggin' house, directly off the web. For example, http://www.whitepages.com/.

Kinda sobering when you think about it.

To all the people who don't wont there tag numbers known. What do you do when you drive the car? Can't people get you number then. I don't see much deference.

Without giving away any identities, I've met people who literally do just that. In CA, no tags are needed when a car is new (or just resold), though you must keep your registration visible (e.g. taped to the windshield). So they just drive without front or rear plates, keep the car washed, and everybody assumes it's just a new car that hasn't gotten its plates yet. If they're pulled over, the plates are in the car with them and they can produce them.

Something to think about I guess...
