also remember anything above 1/125 will stop motion and not get you the results your looking for to show motion.

Also the greater your focal length, the less you have to slow down the shutter speed to attain motion blur. For example, at 70mm you might use 1/60 and at 400mm 1/125 will get you a similar result. At 400mm very small movements of your hands will constitute a great movement of the scene in the viewfinder. I do a lot of panning shots at autox events and it takes some practice but it becomes easy to master after a while. IS helps, but is not necessary all the time.

What I'm really interested in is how Costas achieves his look. Those photos are definitely post-processed and they look stunning.
