Default wideband broken?

My wideband appears to be on the fritz. Sometimes it works like normal but othertimes it seems like it gets suck around 14.5. Even flooring it and getting the revs up wont richen it up and letting off the gas won't lean it at all. Other times it is all over the place. It is a glowshift wideband gauge so I know it wasn't of the highest quality, however the sensor it uses is a bosch LSU 4.9. I assume the gauge it's self just reads the output from the sensor and their for the gauge its self shouldn't be important as it is just reading what the sensor tells it to.

So is their something wrong with my sensor? The wire for it is a little pinched since the sensor is so close to the underbody of the car but it appeared to be fine when I put it in and if it did short I would assume it wouldn't read anything not mid 14s. Plus last time I checked the sensor wire it looked fine. Anyone have any idea what is going on? Their defiantly seems like their is something wrong as the afrs don't seem to match my throttle response most of the time and if the afrs shown are true my engine should be blown.

When sensors go bad they will start reading around 14.7 all the time. So if the wiring is fine then more thanlikely the sensor is going bad.

Thread OP

Unplug and replug your wideband then test. If no change, check wiring. Re-test. If all wires good, your wide-band should have come with a test checklist. If you don't have the manual, I'm sure you can find one online or contact the company for technical support.

wow, you couldn't have called that better. I had known that they normally read in the 14s when going bad so I assumed that was the problem (i didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to be bias), either that or the crappy glowshift gauge. I just jacked the car up to insure that the wire wasn't the problem. There was defiantly damage to the wire where it was touching the body. I brought the pipe to a shop and had them weld a new bung so it would be out of the way. I then was able to cut the main wire open and electric tape the wires. I think it was grounding out on the car. Upon reinstalling it appeared to fix the problem. Well fixed the gauge... now my AFRs are back to all over the place.

thanks for the help everyone.

Yea definitely sounded like a disconnected wire. Typically when the sensor starts to go bad you will see lean spikes.
