Default What happens to VTEC when you SC or Turbo?

Just curious as I consider the options. Seems to me that bolting on any kind of FI relegates the cam switch to a much more secondary effect compared to the boost itself. So do we lose some of the VTEC optimization when we add FI?

Does adding FI actually mess with the VTEC cam setup? Are people swapping out cams for a different VTEC setup when adding FI to the equation?

Anyone eliminating VTEC altogether w/ FI?

To generally answer your question, FI doesn't affect vtec engagement, lowering the engagement point through your engine management device will yield more mid range power but its their for efficiency reasons FI or not. You would not want to run the high cam profile off idle and you would not want to run the primary cam profile in the upper range. it is a good working system FI or N/A. Nothing worth changing mechanically unless you want to explore retrofitting the newer i-vtec set up. Not worth the trouble INMOP.

actually i disagree. high revvs loves overlap in the cam timing but boost doesnt. ive seen alot of cars that will change to a cam that has a little less overlap in the high-vtec lobe and make more power.

my .02 would consist of,

Supercharger with a good tune would almost nullify the feel of VTEC engagement. Adjusting it to 4k-4.5k is the general tuning scheme that I have seen.

As for Turbos. I have never riden or drove a turbo S2K. but from what I can tell it is a pretty dam good engagement and really "boosts" the feeling of VTEC engagement. i dont know if they tune the VTEC to engage near the time of peak boost. but it would make sense if they make boost at 5500rpm to drop a little before that.

You dont really feel Vtec after you go turbo. The rush of power you get once boost hits is soo much larger than when Vtec kick in. So essentially your new vtec is turbo spool!

High revs love overlap boosted or not. Crappy exhaust manifolds cause motors to not love overlap, not boost.
