bingo.

ever watched a 9 sec pass of the s2ks with bult trans? they trap out in 4th at 140+

worst if you stick with the stock trans get a rear with a 3.70-3.90 rear. that'll at least be good for one less shift.
Agreed, one less shift I think I could even live with./

However with what i'm seeing, I'm afraid I will be on borrowed time as well.

^^Bad thing with going with a 3.70 or 3.90 rear gear is its harder on the tranny. If you went the other way, say a 4.44, its easier on the tranny but you will have to use more gears to get to a high mph and the synchro's in 5th and 6th gears arent double like 1st-4th and wear much faster.

I just spent 3300 on a used OEM supra trans. All of a sudden 6k doesnt sound so bad for a badass dog box for the s2000.

The high HP guys should suck it up and just save for the goods. until then.... turn down the boost.

How well does the Supra tranny fit? Will the shifter still fit in the stock location and can it be installed to where it looks factory?

I don't think you can run a supra trans in the s2000. I believe he is stating he has purchased his for his supra. What does the supra trans support hp wise also? I'm thinking of just going the dog box route. 140 in 4th is serious.

Agreed, Rob ditched the s2k and went poopra.

I don't want a dogbox for this car...just something that is boost ratio friendly, still easy to drive and not 8 million bucks.

Id go with a good strong synchro gearset if they were more along the lines of about $2500 instead of $5000. I just cant comprehend why it would cost so much to make strong gearsets for this tranny. Somebody needs to come out with some good gearsets for half the price and I'm sure there would be a huge market for it.

BTW, just bought a virgin 28k mile tranny for $475 and picked it up tonight. Hopefully this one will last the rest of the season. I may tune it up to 700 or so whp and then back it down to 600 whp for running around. If I come across a race where I'll need the extra 100 or so whp, I'll just turn the boost back up.

I'd say the added cost goes into R&D and the simple fact people know s2k's aren't as cheap, so they take on a few extra bucks b/c they think they can get it.

Which is sad, but true.

Costs no more to make a stronger gearset for our cars, as simple as the transmissions are as it would for a T-56 on a mustang or similar, but their stuff is a fraction of the price. Just like Rob posted about his Supra.

Anyway, good kill on the cheap tranny....I have a feeling mine is on it's way out.
