Warm weather and smoking engine in built engine
I just had an engine lightly built and lower compression pistons were put in along with rods and bearings. The head was in good shape and my mechanic fired it up a while ago when it was colder to make sure it was working. The weather has since gotten significantly warmer and he now said that it is smoking upon start up. He has put in 5w30 and we're wondering if race oil is needed. I'm wondering what issues there could be other than oil choice.

I would think your mechanic would know the answer to your question.. is the person who fired it up the one who rebuilt the motor
has long has it been sitting not being run? is it blueish smoke like buring oil? or white like antifreexe is being burnt? does the smoke go away? and does it smoke again next time you cold start it? there are a lot of deciding factors to determine the proper diagnosis to your smokyness..
